Picaresque adventures in the 17th and 18th century

The DVD has been on my Amazon wishlist for a while, and it's going into my next order. Does it end as abruptly and seemingly randomly as the book? (At least the abridged version, where Rinaldo and friends just decide to sail away to have more adventures on Corsica.)

This reminds me of the brueghelian adventure/children's television series Die Bockreiter / De Legende van de Bokkerijders [buckriders] - fond childhood memories.
Unfortunately there are only Dutch and German versions available.
